HAUNTED HOUSE EVENT 2008
It's hard to capture the true sense of
the scene.  Do you use a flash or
not?  Obviously, it's better without a
flash.  However, the pictures don't
turn out too well without a flash.  So
in some of these you may have to
use your imagination!  :)
So here is case-in-point.  This is
without a flash, which makes it a
little more true-to-life!
This scene is in the front yard, lit
with a red spotlight.  I was very
happy with the bones layout this year.
Against the house I had my
home-made ghoul.  I placed the
strobe light on the roof this year,
which lit him up much better and
cast an eerie shadow against the
house.  Note the almost full moon in
the sky!
Here is the whole yard.  Not a very
good picture, but again it goes back
to flash vs. no flash, etc.  Night pics
are hard to take!  LOL!  On the night
of Halloween, I also lit the tree in the
back yard up with a big spotlight that
brought the whole house into the
scene.  I believe that there may be
another picture that shows the tree.
It was eerie!
Halloween night.  Here are a few of
the patrons.  Unfortunately this year
I was too busy to take any scare
pictures.  I'll try to get some next
year, though!
Halloween night.  This was towards
the end of the night.  We handed out
lots of candy and glow-sticks!
This was the first attraction in the
haunted house.  It was a new
addition this year, an animatronic
witch that had several different
voice-tracks.  She also moved and
stirred the cauldron.  The snake on
the bottom would strike at you.  She
is accompanied by shrunken heads in
a bottle in the background and was
lit with a green spotlight.
The graveyard was the next scene.  I
was VERY happy with the way that
this turned out.  I used real dirt and
dirt mounds for 2 of the graves.
The center (pictured) was the
remote control "grave popper".  The
scene was lit with a blue spotlight.
Not pictured is the bat that was just
a static prop, however I tied a
fishing string to it and from the false
wall behind the graveyard my dad
would pull it back and wait until
someone was in front and then
release it!  It would fly directly at the
victim!  Along with the moss, rats,
snakes, I think that the graveyard
was a hit!
After the graveyard, I placed a ghoul
that would "fall" right in front of
your face.  It was controlled by an
actor behind the false wall.  This
was lit with a strobe light.  I counted
3 kids that after this happened, they
turned and ran!  Guess that means
it's good?  LOL.
Around the next corner was the
blood display.  Also, because it was
underneath the platform, this is also
where you would get scared from up
above.  You can see the cut plastic
on the left?  Those are steps so the
actor can crawl up on top of the
platform.  Most didn't think about
being scared from up above in a
private haunted house.  It was great!
The next scene was a bunch of
scary heads/faces with a black light.
It was a static display, except for the
ghost in the background would light
up, moan, and move up and down.
I changed up the fountain this year.
Instead of using food coloring to
make the water look like blood, I
used a straight water with yellow
highlighter marker ink so that the
water would be black-light
responsive.  It was an awesome
effect!
My coworker, Ken C., played
Frankenstein!  Ken is 6'9", so it
worked out REALLY well!  He was
lit with a green spot that was infared
activated.  So imagine it being
completely dark, then when the
green spot comes on, BAM!  There
he is!  Great reactions!
This was on the gate as you exited
the haunted house.  He is
motion/sound activated and says
different phrases, then his eyes and
tongue pop out.  Kinda cute, but
different!
Preceding this picture, in the
bedroom window I had a hologram
of different ghosts.  A lot of people
really liked it, I'm just ticked that I
wasn't able to get a good picture!
Just remember, every year is
different and better, so hopefully I'll
come up with something better that I
can get a picture of this next year!

Travis G. played Jason.  And very
well, I may add!  He was the last
scare, but because I had not had
anything in this corner the last year,
I think it caught a lot of people by
surprise!

Thanks to all who helped and came
out to experience Lawndales'
Haunted House!  We look forward to
more victims...... errrr....  Patrons
next year!
